Het Grote Genieten - Endless Enjoyment

 Welkom!
~~~~~
Welcome!
Zo halverwege september begint voor mij ieder jaar sinds 1988 het Grote Genieten
met de verjaardag van jongste zoon Zondagssteek op de zeventiende,
die dit jaar een dag later gevolgd wordt door de aanvang van de Sampler Quilt cursus bij Jellie ,
waar ik me voor opgegeven heb,
net als vorig jaar, maar toen kwam de 'vingerprik' ertussen.
Ik vind het een feest, om acht keer maandelijks op een dinsdagochtend,
in Dokkum (dus ik kan op de fiets! ),
in Jellies nieuwe atelier, met zeven andere hartstikke leuke gelijkgestemden,
te gaan genieten van lapjes, leren, leuteren en lachen!
~~~~~
Every year since 1988 for me the Endless Enjoyment of September starts off with the birthday of youngest son Zondagssteek, on September 17th.
This year to be followed by the Sampler Quilt course at Jellie's I signed up for for the second time, since last year the 'Story with the Hand' was the big party-pooper.
It's going to be Endless Enjoyment, once a month on Tuesday morning,
eight months long, in a group of eight as Qu-ill-t as I am ladies,
sharing ( fabric) love, lessons and laughter!
All is going to happen in Jellie's new workshop in Dokkum,
 which means
 just a ten minutes' bike-ride for me :>)

 ***

~~~~~
Now that Autumn has come blown into our country,
my heart jumps for joy on Autumn's beauty
 I see when I look out of my kitchen window.
  En dit moois, in de late namiddagzon,
 ~~~~~
And this... in the sunlight of the late afternoon,

 ~~~~~
 when I take a few ( dancing- )steps around the corner of my back door.
  ***
  Ter verhoging van de quiltfeestvreugde bood Marga aan,
om één van mijn twee siggy quilts machinaal voor mij te quilten.
Zij, de quilt, is inmiddels opgestuurd.
Foto's zal ik hier laten zien, als zij doorgestikt teruggekeerd is in Huize Zondagssteek.
 I am overjoyed by Marga's offer to machine quilt one of my two siggy quilts.
When it has returned home at De Zondagssteek's Residence,
I'll show some pictures here on my blog.
    Zo zie je,
september kan dit jaar voor mij niet meer stuk.
~~~~~
It may be clear that
 I will always remember this year's September!

Groetjes!

Met zorg afgehandeld - Handled with care

 Welkom!
~~~~~
Welcome!
 Met het mooiste weer van de wereld stapte ik vanmorgen vroeg op de bus en de trein, om naar het Handenteam in het UMCG in Groningen te gaan, waar de plastisch chirurg en de revalidatiearts mij duidelijkheid zouden gaan verschaffen over eventuele operatie,
 therapie of 'niets meer aan te doen of van te verwachten' voor mijn rechter hand.
Het laatste is het geval.
Opereren is absoluut niet aan de orde, want daarvoor is het probleem van verlittekening te groot.
Therapie haalt niets meer uit, dus einde verhaal.
~~~~~
 This morning I had the most wonderful weather while traveling to the UMCG in Groningen, where I had an appointment at the Hand team's, which means the plastic surgeon and the revalidation specialist,
to find out about possible new therapy or operation or 'that was it' for my right hand.
Surgery is no option, as there's a major scar tissue problem;
therapy won't add anything in terms of progress,
so, this was it.

*******

~~~~~
My 'quilted' index-finger is on the mend, although the pain is still rather annoying.
The antibiotics are doing what they are expected to do.
And tomorrow my QRR is coming home again,
dismissed from further treatment at the QRR dealer's workshop.
I think I'm going to stitch in some ditches of one of my siggy quilts tomorrow evening:>)
 Ik zou Mevrouw Zondagssteek niet zijn, als ik mijn doktersbezoek in Groningen niet had gecombineerd met een partij lekker sniften op de (stoffen)markt en in al die leuke winkels, waar ik op weg naar het station voorbij kom en naar binnen wil en ga!
Ik viel met mijn neus in de quiltboter, toen ik deze kalender vers uit de doos, net in het rek, zag staan.
 Als een scheet op een schaats in de houdgreep genomen, om hem later, samen met een stel heerlijke biologische zeepjes betaald in mijn tas te laten zakken.
After the hospital I spent some lovely time at the (fabric)market and in those wonderful shops I pass on the way back to the railway station, like the real Mrs. Zondagssteek is used to make the best of a day out!
I was so lucky to find and buy this just-arrived-and-displayed Quilt Calendar.
 Graag wil ik iedereen bedanken voor de hartelijke reacties op mijn 'hand geschiedenis'.
Die hebben mij enorm goed gedaan!
Een fijne avond gewenst en tot ziens.
Siggy Ruil - Siggy Swap
Goedenavond!
~~~~
Good evening!

Echt geweldig; allemaal even bijzonder.

 These thirteen Siggies are the harvest of the last couple of days. I love them all; every single one is a beauty, a masterpiece I will treasure.
I try to sew a little bunch on the machine every day, to keep up with the swap.

Today, at therapy in Groningen, it was explained to me once more that the function of the hand will not get any better.
This is the last time I'll be mentioning that hand on this blog.
I want to look at the bright side of life; there's so much more for me to enjoy.
Like the Siggy Swap!

Duidelijkheid - Clearness

Hallo allemaal,
~~~~
Hello everyone,
Het was dus therapiedag vandaag.
Met de spalk ga ik een ander programma volgen vanaf aanstaande maandag; eerst een paar dagen rust wegens wat teveel belasting in de afgelopen tien dagen. Vanaf maandag ga ik dan drie keer vijf minuten de vingertop in de spalk /rekband hangen, gevolgd door het middelste kootje, ook voor vijf minuten per keer.
 Margreet, de therapeute heeft mij een paar zachte schuimrubber kokertjes gegeven, die ik over die vinger kan schuiven, om eens te kijken of ik dan een naald of een speldenkop kan velen tegen die overgevoelige vinger, en of het werkbaar is met dat ding. Alleen voor het grovere werk, want ik moet maar aan het idee gaan wennen, dat het fijne werk voor mij niet meer weggelegd is.
Die jaren en die uitlaatklep zijn voorbij.
Ik ben natuurlijk nogal ontdaan van deze duidelijkheid, maar bovenal ben ik opgelucht, omdat ik nu niet meer (blind) hoopvol af hoef te wachten.
Om het littekenweefsel in de handpalm wat te versoepelen en te verzachten heb ik siliconenzalf gekregen.
Ik zie het eerst maar eens even aan.
Wie weet, wat er verder nog op mijn pad komt, ja toch?
~~~~
To cut a long story short, my dear English readers: After a period of rest until next Monday I'll start a new flexion training schedule of three times a day five minutes the finger tip in the brace, followed by the middle phalanx, also for five minutes. Next Thursday is the new appointment.
I got also clearness about the 'expectations' for fine needlework, embroidery, patching and quilting.
I'd better get used to and accept the idea that I will not be able to do that fine work anymore.
You can imagine I am sad about that news, but on the other hand it is clearness and I don't have to keep up (blind) hope, or wait without any realistic expectations. Understand?
 So what I am going to do is: continue excercising the finger, ofcourse, with weekly therapy in Groningen, where Margreet, the therapist will help me work on the so-called three-point-grip; without there can be no holding pen(cil)s, pins or needles.
Silicon gel will hopefully  soothen the scar tissue in the palm of my hand.

~~~~
 Revealing the photo secret:
I made the picture myself, when I was in Australia in 2009.
It is the Criterion Hotel in Sydney, on the corner of Pitt and Park Streets.
Jellie was the only one who guessed in the right direction, suggesting Perth, but for that photo I had to fly for four more hours.
Thank you very much for playing this little quiz. It was great fun to do. Hope you liked it, too.
 Something I would really like to know is, how many people, especially in Sydney, do know about these wall paintings?
 Old pictures of the hotel already show the paintings, so they're not of recent date.
Dit was het voor vandaag.
Nog een fijne avond gewenst en tot ziens!
Vanavond - Tonight
Goedemorgen!
 ~~~~~
Good morning!

 ~~~~
 Yesterday evening I added another five siggies to my archive; they keep coming in and I love each and every single one. They're so very special.
Vandaag is het weer Groningen-dag, dus hand en spalk uit de mouw!
Vanavond zal ik verslag doen en dan zal ik ook het antwoord op de fotovraag geven.
Ik vraag het nog één keer...
Wie weet wáár op de wereld deze muurschilderingen te vinden zijn?
 Today it's time for therapy in Groningen again.
Tonight I'll write a 'handy update' and I'll also reveal the secret about the wall paintings.
 Just one more time I ask:
 Who knows where in this wonderful world these wall paintings can be found?
Tot vanavond.
Groetjes!
See you tonight.
Uitdaging en Vingeroefeningen - Challenge(d)
Goeienavond allemaal,
~~~~
 Good evening everyone,

~~~~~
First thing I'd like to talk about with you is the wonderful challenge 'Shopping from your own closet',  which I took part in enthousiastically, not knowing yet what I know now: that my personal goal for 2012 is to go to Australia in September - October; that's in 'challenge-time'...
And how, o how, can I lay my hand (only the left one, the right one is challenged) on those beautiful, fantastic, affordable  Aboriginal fabrics I bought three years ago and I know where I can buy them in Perth and Fremantle.... but I am not allowed to buy a single scrap!
 Conny, please, can you help me find a way to 'get round' the rules of the challenge?
Or I'd make a deal with my friends overthere, offering me the fabrics as a 'present'...
    *******
 Een andere uitdaging betreft de vingeroefeningen, die ik sinds vanmiddag met mijn hand in een spalk kan gaan doen, om de buiging zoetjesaan te oefenen in rust. Beginnen met drie keer daags vijf minuten, op te voeren tot over een dag of zes drie keer een half uur bereikt is. Het doel is: drie keer daags een half uur, of twee keer daags een uur. Zo ziet de spalk eruit, die vanmiddag in Groningen voor mij gemaakt is:
 ~~~~~
The other thing I'd like to mention, is my challenged hand, which got a brace made this afternoon, to excercise increasing flexion of my challenged middle finger.
Daily excercise, three times, building up from five minutes a time to half an hour.
This is what the brace looks like. It was made for me today in Groningen:

Een leren lusje om de vinger, dat via een draadje, door een oogje op de spalk met een elastiekje is verbonden, dat op zijn beurt wordt vastgezet onderaan de spalk, ook weer om een haakje. Zo wordt dus als het ware de vinger in een buiging getrokken. Ze vinden wat uit!
Ik vind het wel knap en geweldig hoor, wat er allemaal mogelijk is. Stel je toch eens voor: zou ik straks weer een naald kunnen hanteren? Ik ga keurig en hard oefenen.
 ~~~~~
 A little leather loop round the finger, attached to an elastic band by a nylon thread, the elastic band is stretched to the rear end of the brace, where it's fixed to a little hook. That's how the finger is pulled into flexion and how training that will hopefully lead to supple finger function. Can you imagine me sewing and stitching again? Wouldn't that be wonderful?
I 'm gonna work very hard on it!
*******
Een fijne avond nog verder en tot gauw maar weer.
Groetjes!
 ~~~~~
 Have a nice evening, or day, or sweet dreams.
Cheers!

Hand

 Goedenavond / Good evening,

 ~~~~~
 This morning I had the appointment with the specialistic Hand-team in the University Medical Centre Groningen. That team consists of a plastic surgeon, a hand therapist and a revalidation specialist. After I had answered their questions and they had done their reviewing job, I was sent to the waiting-room for about 15 minutes, while they made up their minds about treatment.
 I must say I was a bit nervous about the outcome, that appeared to be like this:
no surgery in these first six months, but hand therapy to help the swellings in the hand reduce. Once a week I'll have to go to Groningen for one hour's therapy and the next specialistic Hand-team review won't be until June 2012.
To kill the pains I can take Ibuprofen for the first two weeks and I also got a therapeutic compression glove, that will help reduce pain and control swelling.
That feels so good already!
The appointments for the next four weeks are made.
 It's going to be a long, long way, but I've got the time and I'll take my time.
 It is a huge relief  knowing this all; it makes frustrations and uncertainty disappear.
Een fijne avond gewenst en tot ziens!
 ~~~~~
 Have a nice day or evening.
 Cheers!

Siggyruil en Goed Nieuws / Siggy Swap and Good News

Goeiemiddag / Good afternoon!

 ~~~~~
Sinterklaas Eve's celebration became even more joyful by the unexpected visit and stay of a dear friend from The Hague. The more the merrier!  :>))
 Na het Heerlijk Avondje begon vandaag met een heerlijk ochtendje, doordat ik positieve (voor mij!) uitslagen van het bloedonderzoek na de darmkanker controle van vorige week mocht ontvangen.
Volgende controle over drie maanden.
Dat ik erg blij ben met dat goede nieuws, hoef ik jullie eigenlijk niet te vertellen!
~~~~~
 After yesterday's wonderful celebration this morning became just as wonderful, after I received the positive (for me!) lab results of the blood check that had been done after my last week's colon cancer check-visit to the surgeon.
Next appointment end of February 2012.
No need to tell you that I am very happy with this good news!

~~~~~
After some hesitation and insecureness about my hand-sewing possibilities, at last I decided to join:
  Building houses from scraps
  Mocht het niet lukken met die hand, dan heb ik het in elk geval geprobeerd en het patroon bederft niet.
~~~~~
If it might appear to be a problem, with that hand of mine, I can say that at least I have tried and the pattern will last...

Groetjes!

 Cheers!

Handwerk

Goedemiddag allemaal,

  ~~~~~
 Good afternoon everyone,
Today I was at the revalidation specialist's in Groningen's UMCG.
He was not very amused about my hand and has not suggested any treatment yet, because he wants the advice of at least a plastic surgeon as well. That means I have got a special appointment for 20 December. These specialists together can hopefully come to an advice, treatment or (even) another operation.
I must stop the Scarban plasters I had got last Thursday from the ergotherapist for scar tissue treatment, as they don't bring any relief; they only make the pains get worse.
Because it is a daytrip journey for me to go to Groningen from where I live in Dokkum, traveling by bike, bus, train and walking, the doctors want to make sure that from the 20st. of December all appointments will be made on one day altogether. Great service, I think, as today I left home at 9 AM and wasn't back before  2 PM. And you should know that I did not have to wait for connections for longer than three minutes!
I am feeling worn-out now; need a huge coffee!
 ~~~~~
 ~~~~~
 I am off to the kitchen in half an hour, to prepare a nice and tasty dinner, to settle down after that with the crochet-needle and silver yarn to make a few more lovely silver ice crystals.
Many a little makes a mickle.... is my motto.
 I still can do some crocheting, but doing any other needlework is impossible, writing and drawing as well.
Groetjes en een fijne dag verder gewenst!
Tot de volgende keer.
 ~~~~~
 Enjoy your day or evening and till soon.
Cheers!

Weer thuis / Home again

Goedemorgen!

~~~~~
 Good morning!
 The appointment I had on Thursday at the ergotherapist's in the UMCG has taught me a lot about my hand problems. I got silicone plasters to supple the scar tissue in finger and palm, that bothers the tendons so seriously and is so painfully obstructing them.
Next appointment on December 13th.
Then the therapist will make a brace or splint for my hand, for  excercizing the finger's flexor.
(For as far as I have understood it all well...)
Tomorrow there's the appointment at the revalidation specialist's in the UMCG.
He's going to explain about  their conclusions and he will also point out the treatment which will hopefully be there for my hand.
One thing is already clear: it will take m u c h  t i m e and there will be limited function in the end, but not sure yet what  'limited' means...
Most important for me is to get rid of those nasty pains; I can  learn to live with limited function, but I know I can never learn to live with those pains :>(
 Pffffft... it's quite some story, isn't it? I become tired already, just typing it.
I am thankful for the superb health care we have in Holland, which I can rely on.
 By the way: the days I spent in Nunspeet, with Nine and celebrating my daughter's birthday, were really wonderful.
***
Two Patch Ladies organiseren weer een leuke verloting. Dit keer zijn zij benieuwd, wie het leukste speldenkussentje (heeft ge)maakt.
Ik heb natuurlijk alweer wat foto's ingestuurd :>)
 ~~~~~
 Hop over to Two Patch Ladies to find out about the new draw they organized, looking for the nicest, cutest, handiest or whatsoever pincushion you have made.
Ofcourse, I am already in with some pictures of mine :>)
***

~~~~
 I joined the Siggy Swap at Quilts and Siggies. Today I want to honour my name and sew with some Sunday's Stitches the first Siggy, that will be sent to Annelies , from whom's quilting brain the Swap-idea sprouted :>)
***
Ik wens iedereen een zalige zondag toe!
 Groetjes en tot gauw maar weer.
~~~~~
 I wish you all a lovely, blessed Sunday.
Till soon.
Cheers!

Op handen... / Handy Update

Hallo allemaal!

 ~~~~~
 Tomorrow I've an appointment at the University Medical Centre in Groningen, to hopefully find treatment and a solution for my tormented hand, with which I cannot do a single stitch, since I was stung by that basting pin in September. The right middlefinger is still painful, stiff and swollen and that's causing troubles, going through my wrist up till my elbow.
 I think you can imagine I am fed up with that finger (in particular).
 Als ik in het UMCG klaar ben, ga ik met de trein naar Nunspeet voor de verjaardag, vrijdag, van mijn dochter. Eerst mag ik een nachtje op mijn kleindochter Nine passen!
Reken maar dat oma dáárvan gaat genieten!
~~~~~
When ready at the UMCG, I'll  catch the train to Nunspeet, to first babysit my darling granddaughter Nine for the night and to celebrate my daughter's birthday on Friday!
You bet, I will enjoy that all!

;>)

Voor nu welterusten en tot ziens!
~~~~~
 Enjoy your day, or sleep well!
 Cheers!
2nd. handy update
Hello friends,
 this morning the surgeon was not happy about my hand's recovery. In spite of  the good physiotherapeutical treatments twice a week, I am still suffering nasty squeezy pains in the finger that's still stiff. The tendon problems in the palm are not diminishing either.
He has sent me through to a hand therapist at the UMCG, in Groningen. We hope they can help me forward to (total) cure and suppleness........
 I keep ( some of ) my  fingers crossed; would you  please join me?
 I really do hope so very very much, that I can stitch by hand again, whenever it may be!
And I hope the special hand therapy can start soon; I'll have to wait for
their call.
 Yesterday I tried to stitch some little blocks on the machine, just straight seams, but it was not much of a success :>(
My right hand can not be pressed down flat to lead the fabric properly, so the fabric took the Drunkard's Path Route... and I stopped sewing, putting the machine back to where it came from: behind the curtains :>)
 A couple af new and 2ndhand books I bought were delivered today, so I can go on reading about and planning for the future quilting projects.
This is one of those wonderful Autumn days, calm, fresh, sunny,  and a carpet of magnificent coloured leaves covering the outdoor world.
I love and enjoy it!
Hope you can enjoy this day too.
  Cheers!
Sissy Day 2011 and more...
Hello friends!
 I think I told you before that I am blessed with five sisters and two brothers?
These five sisters have planned a 'Sissy Day' on Saturday 19 November, here with me, in my home. What a surprise!
We all live in different places, spread over the country, so it was quite a job to make sure every sissy can join that party :>)
 I don't need to prepare anything ( due to that hand-icap ); they did or will do, from cooking, baking, buying, bringing, sleeping and carpooling to doing the dishes after the party.
They arranged this all because a Sissy Day that was planned earlier this year had to be cancelled.
By then I could not yet travel for long, as I was still recovering from surgery for colorectal cancer in August last year.
And now they did not want the year to go by without having had our Sissy Day, so I got a phonecall a few weeks ago from Ingrid, revealing their surprising plan.
We are all looking forward to Sissy Day 2011!
Sitting on the floor are Stella and Annelies.
 This picture was taken 1st.of November 2008, Sissy Day at my place.
 ~~~~~~

 Today I received the Thimblelady thimble  that I ordered from Quilthuis Lieselotje
That thimble promises to offer perfect handquilting, without tendon or gripping pain, and that's what I am looking for at the moment, well, months.
If my finger will not get back in its old supple shape, I want to try to handstitch with this thimble.
At this very moment my finger still is too thick to fit in ( although I bought size L ), so I must be patient for some more time. Yet it is something I look forward to!
 For now I am thinking of machine stitching a charmpack diagonally, cut the blocks and stitch the whole lot together in some kind of pattern, to make a mini quilt.
 Hope I can handle the rotarycutter or the scissors.....
Putting this Frisian saying into practice:
( If it can't be done like it should -  It should be done like it can )
 ~~~~~~~
She ( Jim Shore's 'Sew Angelic') is in my Little Walhalla, watching my stash for the time being:
  ~~~~~~

 Tonight the clock will be turned back one hour, so we can sleep a little longer :>)
 Won't be of any problem for me, I took this crocheted coverlet
 this morning to upgrade my bed, making it winterproof as nights are getting colder now.
I crocheted the coverlet 32 years ago, double sized; must have been suffering from a serious crochet fever. Don't know.. I do know I was in love, we had planned our wedding and I was making this for the newly-wed's-bed :>)

 Have a wonderful weekend!

 Cheers!

Limerick fun at Two Patch Ladies

 Hello friends,

 Hanneke and Inge at Two Patch Ladies started a draw you can take a chance in by sending a Limerick about Quilting.
There are two stitchery packets to win. Isn't that nice?
 I love everything concerning  fabric and language, so you understand I think it's great fun patching and matching words about quilting, creating a Limerick!

 I already sent one in Dutch:
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Een quiltster uit een Dokkumer streekje
 deed het liefst met de hand ieder steekje,
 maar na een prik in haar jat
 lag haar handwerk plat
 en dat steekt; het heelt niet in een weekje.
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 And I've tried to write one in English:
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Patching and matching and stitching
make a quilter's hand become itching,
 when she goes through her stash
 and pictures in a flash
 the result of her quilt-in-the-ditch-ing.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 Enjoy your Sunday; mine is a perfect Autumn one.

 Cheers!

Handy update

Hello friends!

 More than one whole week without posting; quite unusual for me in normal circumstances but, since I am handicapped there's not so much left to post about.
However, today I can Show and Tell a bit about The Hand, if you don't mind.
If  you do, please quit this blog and hop over to quilt-blogs you like :>)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 My hand is on the mend :>)
 New skin is now covering palm and finger, antibiotics and their anti-allergic medication are swallowed to a finish; the only medication I still need are painkillers.
Without that stuff I feel like hand-stuck between the door.
 And that's a horrible pain  I really can't cope with.
I don't bother about stiffness or limited power or suppleness, but P A I N ... I hate that, especially that kind of pain.
  Twice a week I go for physiotherapeutical treatment, which means  massage and applying lymphdraining tape to reduce the swelling.
 This is what my taped hand looks like now, five weeks after surgery:
Next  picture was taken after two weeks, when the surgeon had removed the wound drains:
 ( the colour is bad, too blue-ish )
  I think you can imagine how glad and thankful I am, that all has come to such a happy end, with my finger still where it belongs; could have been much worse if I had come a little later...
 And I think you can't imagine, like I couldn't, that this is caused by
one simple curved basting safety ( !! ) pin.
And nasty bacteria giving a hand.
 So, I think you can also imagine that quilting and stitching by (that) hand have to wait for some more months. I'll see what comes and when, and in the meantime I do my stinking best to sew with my left hand and with my dear friend the sewing-machine, which already had some surprising results; not to Show and Tell about yet, because it's for a swap I joined :>)))
~~~~~~~~

 To show you something nice I made and bought before the Big Sting, look at this:

 The peace of cake is a p........n,
yes-guess-yes,
a pincushion!

 The biscuit that looks so real that you'd like to take a bite, is a coaster I bought at Blond Amsterdam, when I was there, shopping for real Dutch presents I wanted to take for my friends in Australia, two years ago.
This funny biscuit was a present for myself.

 Well, I think the pictures of this deli stuff give this post a happy and tasty end, don't they?

 Wishing you all a blessed and sunny weekend!

 Cheers!

Thanks!

Hello dear friends,

 Thank you so very  much for your kind words, wishing me all the best with my hand!
My hand that has to get on the mend, instead of getting mending....

Since I can't do any stitching I'll have to find a way to spend my days in another way I like.
So I decided this morning to alter my home, bringing in a touch of Autumn.
I took out my very first panel quilt and put it on my coffee table:

 And what do you think of this pillow case?

Another thing I managed to do is grab and put some Fall stuff together, adding a bit more sense of Autumn to my home:

 .
The wooden toad-stool is a gift from my daughter, bought at a craft market and it's made from yew-wood.
It's not hard to recognise a .... pincushion (top right) and a little heart-shaped one in the centre, keeping the wise words about enjoying the little things in place.
The toad-stool gift wrap and some (artificial) fruit were added to make it a nice composition altogether.
One more stitched item I can't keep from you:

All this makes my house my home

 Enjoy Autumn!
 Wishing you happy days.

Cheers!

Like a pincushion...

Hello friends,

 This morning I woke up at 04:00 a.m. feeling like a pincushion that's stabbed with thousands of those nasty pins
**************    :>(   **************
Another allergic reaction, I guessed, which was becoming worse in the following hours.
Happily I had an appointment at the surgeon's at about eleven o'clock for a wound check up ( kind of Show & Tell ); I hoped he could help me out of this prickly situation too!
 I am trying to adapt to the new situation that offers me  loads of time for reading and blogging about needlework, patchwork & quilting.
 The bees, lessons, courses I had planned to take or was already doing, all had to be cancelled.
That hurts, I can tell you!
 The more it hurts when tuition fee is not restituted. That's what I am experiencing now in one case, and I am talking about a substantial amount.
 This bad luck that came over me doesn't even seem to be  reason enough to let 'rules' go and pay my
over-one-hundred euros back.
I might sound bitter, but it truly is how I feel right now. Bit disappointed I am.

By twelve o'clock I was back from the surgeon; the four drains were removed from finger and palm, I got  medication against this new antibiotic allergy,  new and better fitting finger bandages and a letter for a physical therapist for excercises to get my finger / hand back in shape.
New appointment Wednesday next week.

I'll spend this afternoon reading and maybe do some organizing in my little Walhalla, where I want to pile up neatly the fabrics that are still in my sewing area / on my dinner table :>)
Just try and feel how far I come with only one hand available.

 Wishing you a wonderful day!
Cheers!

And The Quilt's name is........

Hi friends,

yesterday was my youngest son's 23rd. birthday and I was so happy I was at home in time!!
 And yesterday I decided to give my 'disaster'-quilt a name. A name I want to embroider on a label when I am fully recovered and able to write and stitch again, whenever that will be.
I think it won't be of any surprise to you that I call that cloth 'Panaritium Tendinosum'... after the disease the curved basting pin pricked me with into hospital and another kind of cutting and stitching of patches and threads........
 I want to show one more photo of  that quilt, that has to wait for its final binding until Mrs. Zondagssteek can pick up the threaded needle again :>)

 I love all those colours; they colour my days and cheer me up!
 Well, that's it for now.
I wish you all a lovely Sunday!

 Cheers!

Quilting fever

Hi friends,

 eight days of silence on my blog,  rather unusual for me, but the reason is a similar unusual story that started on Thursday last week with sandwiching my batik quilt

using those fantastic curved basting pins that appeared to be S H A R P .....
because, when I wanted to pick up pin number eighty-one something happened that made the pin end up in my right middlefinger tip. Arrrgh. I took it out and finished my sandwiching job, to start the quilting.
 Thirty six hours later I woke up, bathing in sweat and suffering severe pain in that finger and a 38,6 C.degrees fever.
 Consulting the weekend doctor's service next morning at 11:30 a.m. I  was immediately sent through to a surgeon, who operated me policlinically, 'hung' me on bottles with antibiotics and kept me in hospital.
 Monday afternoon another operation (under total anaesthesia this time) was indicated as my hand was swollen, infection levels in the blood were rising and the aspect of the hand was no less than horrible.
 The surgeon did a very good job and my finger could be saved.
 After four more days filled with painkillers, antibiotics (and an allergy for one specific kind of them :>((, a problem that had to be solved as well), wound draining baths and all that, finally I could be sent home after six days.
Recovery will take a long long time, think in months............, in which I can not even think of holding a needle or using scissors, I'm afraid. So, no quilting for me for I do not know how long and that makes me feel sad, so sad.
  Really hand-icapped.

 But I keep up hope and  I will keep on blogging, as one finger is enough to use the laptop for writing updates :>)

 Wishing you all the best.
Till soon.
No Cheers for now, I am sorry.
