Zussendag - Sissy Day

Goedenavond!
 

Vandaag heb ik met alle vijf mijn zussen Zussendag gevierd bij mij thuis!

Het was een geweldige dag, waar we allemaal erg van hebben genoten.
 

    Van links naar rechts, op de bank, met woonplaats tussen haakjes: 

 Jacqueline (Wormerveer), Zondagssteek-Jeanneke (Dokkum), Annelies (Heemstede), Ingrid (Wageningen),

 op de voorgrond:

 Stella (Groningen) en Loni (Voorburg).

Wat is het toch bijzonder, dat wij dat kunnen doen, want wij mogen ons rijk prijzen met een goede gezondheid en een hechte band.

Het heeft er allemaal niet onder te lijden, dat we zo verspreid over het land wonen; dat maakt het misschien wel specialer, als we dan ééns per jaar zo met ons zessen kunnen zijn.

Wij hebben ook nog twee broers, maar die doen niet aan Zussendag.

 Good evening!

 Today was Sissy Day at my home!

It was a wonderful day we all enjoyed very, very much.

 Stella (Groningen) and Loni (Voorburg).

 It is very special, we think, because we are blessed with good health and warm family ties.

The fact that we live in different  places,  spread over the country, maybe makes it even a bit more special to be able to share a day like this, once a year.

There are also two brothers in the family, but they don't do Sissy Day :>)

En laat ik nu in de prijzen gevallen zijn!

Met deze limerick:

 Een quiltster uit een Dokkumer streekje

 deed het liefst met de hand ieder steekje,

maar na een prik in haar jat

lag haar handwerk plat

 en dat steekt; het heelt niet in een weekje.

 I can't translate the winning Dutch limerick without making it a pointless mess, I am sorry.

Speldenkussen

Goedemorgen!

 Vanmorgen vroeg heb ik dit fantastische speldenkussen afgewerkt.
Al met al heeft het me een week gekost om het in elkaar te zetten, die rechter vlerk doet nog steeds geen steek, maar het resultaat is gaaf, ja toch?

En ik heb toch weer wat kunnen prikken, dat doet mij ook goed.

Ik ben er wèg van.

Early this morning I finished this fantastic pincushion. 
It took me one week, due to my right hand still being off sewing-duty, but the result is great, isn't it?

I am very happy with it; also with the stitching I managed to do.

  

Het is  Penny's Hexie Caddy Pincushion

en ik vind het werkelijk super!

 In het middendeel is volop plaats voor quilt benodigdheden als potloden, (lijm)stiften, scharen, enzovoorts.

Ga naar Penny's Tutorial en maak er ook een (heleboel) zelf!

 In the centre, caddy part there's plenty of space for your quilting tools and scissors. Hop over to Penny's Tutorial and make one (or many for) yourself!

Ik ga er nog meer maken, alleen een maatje kleiner, want deze is royaal te noemen, gemaakt van hexagonnen met zijden van 2" = twee inches.

Ik denk dat een slag kleiner, zijden van 1 1/4 " , ook wel erg mooi en handig uit zal pakken.

Maar eerst moet ik nu als een haas door mijn huis heen, want morgen is het Sissy Day hier bij mij en dan wil ik de boel wel een beetje aan kant hebben.

 I want to make more of these Cute Caddies, but a bit smaller, because this one is really (Quilting) Queen size, with sides measuring 2". 

Next one will have 1 1/4" sides, which will turn out to be very cute and handy too, I think.

 But: now I have to race, tidying my house, preparing  for Sissy Day tomorrow, here at my home.

Sissy Day 2011 and more...

Hello friends!

 I think I told you before that I am blessed with five sisters and two brothers?
These five sisters have planned a 'Sissy Day' on Saturday 19 November, here with me, in my home. What a surprise!
We all live in different places, spread over the country, so it was quite a job to make sure every sissy can join that party :>)
 I don't need to prepare anything ( due to that hand-icap ); they did or will do, from cooking, baking, buying, bringing, sleeping and carpooling to doing the dishes after the party.
They arranged this all because a Sissy Day that was planned earlier this year had to be cancelled.
By then I could not yet travel for long, as I was still recovering from surgery for colorectal cancer in August last year.
And now they did not want the year to go by without having had our Sissy Day, so I got a phonecall a few weeks ago from Ingrid, revealing their surprising plan.
We are all looking forward to Sissy Day 2011!

 Today I received the Thimblelady thimble  that I ordered from Quilthuis Lieselotje
That thimble promises to offer perfect handquilting, without tendon or gripping pain, and that's what I am looking for at the moment, well, months.
If my finger will not get back in its old supple shape, I want to try to handstitch with this thimble.
At this very moment my finger still is too thick to fit in ( although I bought size L ), so I must be patient for some more time. Yet it is something I look forward to!
 For now I am thinking of machine stitching a charmpack diagonally, cut the blocks and stitch the whole lot together in some kind of pattern, to make a mini quilt.
 Hope I can handle the rotarycutter or the scissors.....

 Tonight the clock will be turned back one hour, so we can sleep a little longer :>)
 Won't be of any problem for me, I took this crocheted coverlet
 this morning to upgrade my bed, making it winterproof as nights are getting colder now.
I crocheted the coverlet 32 years ago, double sized; must have been suffering from a serious crochet fever. Don't know.. I do know I was in love, we had planned our wedding and I was making this for the newly-wed's-bed :>)
